HER HAZEL EYES (Revised)

Wispy foam
Lucent waves
Emerald green
Gently lap
Upon the lagoon shore
Massive sea turtles
Docile
Non aggressive guides
Glide effortlessly
Through their liquid playground
Two Gentleman Realtors
Both extremely wealthy
Post hurricane construction
Politely they discuss
Local politics
Over stout chicory coffee
Sweet rustic pastries
Satisfied
Opinionated
Oblivious
To my sudden appearance
I tour the magical island
On the back of a furry white mongrel
In silence
He directs our journey
With deft programmed precision
Surreal sand dunes
Virgin sugar
White
Mighty windswept slopes
Flowing sea oats
Clear memories from my childhood
Before the winds of change
Blazing noonday sun
Burns my fair skin
Lost in time am I
She
Proudly displays her new beach home
Children play peacefully
On the shiny hardwood floor
“I had to sell my jewelry”
Her somber tone
Depressed
Solemn
She wrapped her arms around my waist
Uncharacteristically
I say nothing
Large social gathering in progress
Bright Florida room
Alive with festive energy
Wings of war
Thunder from the distant runway
Sonic booms
In rhythm with the Reggae band
Me
Stranger in this exotic paradise
Yet I know it intimately
From such frequent visions
Strange eccentric guests
Greet me with kindness
Plasticized graciousness
Eclectic polished pleasantries
I smile
My canine stallion gallops onward
Ominous black clouds
Roiling fast from the east
“We shall ride the storm out here” she said
Her soft kiss goodbye
Still wet upon my cheek
We both know
Never shall we meet again
I shall remember always
Graceful fear
Glowing in her hazel eyes
Mountainous wall of water
Crashing down
Upon the peaceful seaside village
Gone in a matter of seconds
Lifetime of mystical existence
Flotsam and jetsam
All that remains for future generations
Sadly I awoke
Thus ends this trippy dream
One cold October morning
In these times of stark significance

VISCERAL SPECULATION

Visceral speculation
Controlled perceptual chaos
Swirling thoughts of calculated reason
Who I am
Where my path has led me
Spiritual crescendo
Words
Poetic intensity
Meditation
Draws me deeply inward
Self discovery
Basking in His brilliant holy light
Blinding me
Since I was old enough to understand
Not of this world
Never have been
Merely passing through
Eternal mystic journey
So many fail to grasp
Mysterious demeanor
Soul offering
For all the world to see
No secrets
Hidden agendas
Filled with Holy Spirit
Saved by Godly grace
Simplicity
Such a beautiful thing
As society grows more complicated
Inner peace I seek
Serenity
Clinging to sweet Jesus Christ
The only way I comprehend
Life one day at a time
I pray for all to share His love
Absorb Him like a sponge
So delightful is the journey
Everlasting high
His triumphant return draws nigh
Exactly as it is written
Be ever watchful children
Shine thy radiance with zeal
Boldly
Unafraid
Stout-hearted
Share His brilliant glory
With all who shall listen
As destiny arrives

BRANDY AND EDGAR

Edgar said “I’m lonely”
Brandy said “me too”
“I think I’ve lost my vision”
“And I don’t know what to do”

Life on coffee
Cigarettes
Bleary mornings
No regrets

Dopamine shuffle
Liquor slurred
Fried synapse
Wounded bird

His missing rib
Such brittle wings
Her sultry smile
Gold nose ring

He needed her
Just wanted her to know
The chance slipped through his fingers
Sleepless nights ago

“He’s the only one for me”
Precedes her painful pause
Searching for forever
Overlook the flaws

Glazed disposition
Crown of matted hair
Tender soul a rotting
Dazed
Stark despair

Mean streets
Dark
So fucking cold
Minutes seem like hours
Teenage eyes grow old

Jungle steeped in evil
Consciousness evades
“Survival but a choice”
Says the Queen of Spades

Thirst to feel
Not merely see
No time left for sad goodbyes
He wandered aimlessly

Reckless Altar Boy
Lacerated prey
White Horse overdose
He tried too hard that day

BEHOLD.....A BLACK HORSE

Be
What you will be
Why
Matters not
Love
Simply love
Fascination
Alms indeed
Hate
Just doesn’t fit
Looming mass
Bewildered
Growing ever weary
Fear
Redefined
Bleeding world
In sync
My bleeding heart
Reflexive disdain
Granite thoughts
Goofy foot gait
Fleet narcissism
Chaucer’s Chanticleer
Fallen heroes ode
Man dictates his doom
The dollar falls
Nervous smiles
Implosion of the ages
Distasteful exit
Hastily arranged
Austrian atrocities
Burmese cyclone horror
Famine
Gnawing pangs
Behold a black horse

© Bill Grimes Jr. 2008

4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
5When the Lamb opened the third seal; I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart[a] of wheat for a day's wages,[b] and three quarts of barley for a day's wages,[c] and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

I AM AND i...(A song of praise and gratitude)

Flowing with His current
Surfing holy tide
Wander where He leads me
My soul
Satisfied

Following His guidance
Budding holy tree
Accepting life on sacred terms
Letting it all be

Peace
Satisfaction
Joy
Serenity
Not worthy of His blessings
Or grace He’s given me

Grateful nonetheless
A miracle
It’s true
Saved by love
Sweet Jesus Christ
Born again
Brand new

Join the angels
Daily praise
Live for Him each day
His light
Shines deep within me
Helps me make my way

CHILDREN AT PLAY

Atlanta airport
Rush hour
Frantic
Mad dash
Distorted faces
Wild eyed
Full tilt
Three precious boys
Ages six perhaps
Playing together on the floor
Immersed
Gleeful
Innocent
For a few Godly moments
Time stands still
Strangers smile
Memories of our childhood
Crashing in with gentle force
On our personal agendas
Skimming joyful slivers
Sheer delight as we watch
Multi colored faces
Beam in unison
Racial barriers
Erased
Evil
Crushed
Love
Flowing freely
There is peace on earth
When the children play

DISCARDED

So difficult to fathom
Selfish lust of youth
Before
Invigorating
Tonight
Painfully clear
As the colors fade
Emotional deceit
Young woman
Tender
Virgin silk
Ravishing
Consumed
Gnawing hunger
Fierce desire
To be desired
Longing only to be loved
Hormonal mind games
Splotchy ecstasy
Countless carnal liars
Raging fire
Now smolders
3:00 a.m.
Alone
Stained sheets
Streaked mascara
Her delicate head
Gently cupped
In palsied hands
She sobs
Ever so softly
He seeks a fresh conquest
Discarded
As a well worn dress
Second hand romance
Lacerated heart
Overwhelming
Feeble shame
Invades her broken soul

CLOAK OF BLINDED VISION

I write because I must
No negotiations
Blessed appointment
So many things to say
Me
Age Forty nine
Thinking twenty three
Still seeking
Who I’m meant to be
Learning
Shedding
Growing
The child inside
So differs
From the narcissistic man
Siren call of wisdom
Ever tantalizing
Buried so deeply
In the caverns of my mind
Ancient history
Infantile immersion
Cerebral instincts
Roaming free
Absorbing human nature
Unexpected saving grace
Diffused anger
Mental masturbation
I hit the wall thank God
Many moons ago
Guilt swollen throat
Lump of shameful sin
Reminder of those dark days
Grateful forgiveness
Shake it off like rain
Tomorrow
Try again
Intuition
Holy gift
To exercise it daily
Paramount
Burley ego
Reality check
Like cool bed sheets
Crisp
Tucked
Traditional
In so many ways
Somehow I veered
Along the dotted line
Simply lacking discipline
Unconventional repose
Warp speed thoughts
Reluctantly
They rest
Sleep comes eventually
Life cards
Face up on the table
All in
A long time ago
Full tilt
Cruising speed now
Approaching paradise
Transcendental autopilot
There shall come a day
Soon perhaps
Or later
When poetic wells run dry
Rudimentary odes
To all things dear
Shall fall victim to dark silence
Pedigree of impact
Memory serves it best
Art is immortal
When appreciated
Be it prophetic shards
Veracity
Or simply psychobabble
No longer willing
To prostitute my passion
The message
Purest love
Forgiving God of peace
Demons flee
Behind me now
As they have been instructed
Soon to return
Beg for attention again
No fear
This lovely eve
Daily spiritual warfare
Angels guide
Cloak of blinded vision
Trust
Faith
Compassion
Built in tiny increments
Simply being
Powerful medicine indeed
Sharing sacred AGAPE
Living the lesson
One day at a time
Sweet Jesus
Shaking my tree
Precious life fruit
Nourishing me

INSIGNIFICANCE

Giving thanks for Jah love
Praises all
God above
Complex simplicity
Arduous journey
Rising fall
Joyous play on words
Provocative verbs
Funerals
New friends
Rad observations
Student of human nature
The trip never ends
I and i
Together
Forever
Open minded verse
Relentless rhythm style
I pump it out with passion
Hopefully
You dig it
Toss it as you wish
Winding chronicle
Vibrant man child trek
My goal is quite simple
Feel ME
Every buried stitch
Reduce it to perception
Truth
Reality
Expecting miracles
Vast blessings received
My glowing baby gurl
Eighteen loving years
Gilded child
Always will be
Praiseworthy gem
My precious young son
Nine years strong
Artistic
Sensitive
Stirring celebration
Tunes
Flowing endlessly
Through this pulsing brain
Ghosts of my past
Etched evermore
Slow motion
Sketchy
So forgiving
Embraced
By our patient Savior
Despite such arrogance
Forget Babylon
Paradise is nigh
Genuine freedom
Comes from letting go
Of insignificance

WEATHERED DRIFTWOOD (Revised)

Across the foggy bay
Ancient lighthouse beckons
Through gale and harbor mist
Deathly still
Borrowed passage
Unknown
Treacherous rocky current
Majestic presence looming
Just beyond the sacred reef
Lunacy lagoon
I flow
Aging weathered driftwood
Flotsam and jetsam
Tidal moonlit ebb
Reviewing my life’s story
Starry evenings wake
Boiling it all down
To bite sized metaphors
Select precious moments
Calculated risks
My journey has been long
Self imposed cilice
Finally reaching trade winds
No room for armchair critics
Misguided mystics
This human gig
At times
Alone
A razors edge
Life and death complicity
It’s all about true impact
Significance of others
Positive contribution
Ionized exhortation
Constructing self esteem
Kind hearted empowerment
Depth of brilliant smiles
Cheerful eyes that penetrate
Lasting legacy of love
On this fringe
Here I shall stay
As my purpose here is served

DEATH

Distinct distant thunder
Roars an ominous warning
Such is the bed we have made
Sterile ICU
Bed # 23
Comatose gentleman
His lifeless eyes
Electric REM tick
Doleful death mask
Sucking pump
Rhythmic ventilator
His chest heaves on queue
Forced life support
Futile brain dead form
His distraught wife
Gently kisses his clammy forehead
Strokes his matted hair
As if he would disintegrate
Gaping gunshot wound
Slices his heaving belly
Reality
A bloody mess
In human methodology
She wonders through her tears
If he’s there at all
Alas sweet lady
He left hours before
The busy Trauma Surgeon
Stern
Dedicated
Unfortunate lack of eye contact
Averted glance
Screams the tragic news
No need for shallow banter
She finally collapses
Succumbs to exhaustive grief
Into her brothers supportive arms
Standing tall
Despite his breaking heart
Attention now turns to final rites
His lifeless body
Chunked into the clay
Merely a ritual
Sacred goodbye
For those he left behind
Morbidly symbolic
No need for hysteria
Shallow questions
With no earthly answers
Time for thanks and praises
To Him who gave us life
The daily trek goes on
The living stumble forward
Death
A new beginning
To all He calls Disciples
The journey
Evermore
Holy adventure
No mortal chains can tether
Cut flesh leaves scars
Damaged organs
Cause mortality
The sanctified soul lives on
A gift of highest majesty
SELAH!

31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
32 When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.
33 Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning and even among fools she lets herself be known. [a]

FLEETING PREMONITION

Vain inquisition
Frantic search
For what I thought I knew
Counterfeit compliance
So easily impressed
By my swollen ego
Absolute uncertainty
Deftly woven lunacy
Arrogant He Dog
Twice
Became the child
As it was written
Sidereal years
Forty nine
Fascinating circle
Magnified
Steep lessons
Painful circumstance
Ripened eyes
Melt away the chaff
Reclusive nerve
Pulsating
Sweet romance
A fleeting premonition

EASTER SUNDAY 2008

The headlines shout
“Did it really happen?”
Our sick society
Mocking your existence
Skeptical
Arrogant
Demonic
Lost sheep abound
Dancing on your grave
Our world spins wildly
Into evil arms
No doubt dwells within me
I’m blessed to know you personally
Saved by Holy Grace
Daily celebration
You conquered death
As it is written
That I may live forever
A miracle indeed
From the depths of my soul
My Savior
Sweet Jesus Christ
The great I AM
I praise you
I BELIEVE
My soul belongs to thee
Thank you from the depths of my being
Selah!

Luke 24 (New International Version)

The Resurrection

1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' “8Then they remembered his words.”

ETERNAL GIFT

Gift of mortal prose
Passionate
Inspiring
Eccentric in my youth
Rebellious
Eternal search for truth
Divine permutation
Once so dark
Dismal
Now triumphant
Glorious
Filled with gratitude
Saved from evil ligature
Alcoholic torment
Alive this day with purpose
Every breath proclaims
His healing emancipation
Living proof of Christ’s revelation
Eternal walk
Beside Him I shall serve
Symbol of salvation
All I am
I give to thee

12" Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers in the word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”

I Timothy 4: 12-14

PASSION

Emotions
Once gnarled
Askew
Crossed wires
Spastic chemical atrophy
Extremely warped reality
Priorities
Sadly jumbled
Locked in selfish chaos
Lust
Love masquerade
Money bought happiness
Mortal payment plan
Pain
Irritating albatross
Dulled robotically
Copious amounts of cheap Vodka
Through mended eyes
I see clearly this day
God
The only true source
Of all human bliss
Precise
Flawless
Breathtaking
Sacred in every aspect
His radiance
Rooted deep within me
Jubilantly I grow
Euphoric rhapsody
Life is simple
So sweet
Uncluttered
A gift to truly enjoy
Annoying circumstances
Hidden tribulation
My reaction
I now control
Filed with content
An honest day’s work
Passion
Fills my grateful heart
As a child
I thrive

TORN TAPESTRY

Prevailing sneer
Scarred face
Sad human degeneracy
Modern fraud vernacular
Ignorant malign
Against all things decent
Dismal digression
Sloppy moral ethics
Mongrel dregs
Doped on daft pipedreams
Hell bent calamity
Vermin assassins
Devout demonic manes
Poised for incessant attack
Ceremonial scythe
To slit the callow throat
Of those who admonish
Martyrs shall stand firm
Share decisive gospel
In light of persecution
Authentic holy truth
Shall never be expunged
Tangled skein of flaxen thread
Dyed in human tears
Torn tapestry
Ode to mankind’s mastery
Tattered and frayed
Limp
Burgeoning winds of change
Apocalyptic details
Looming destiny
Our world
Slips slowly into madness
Symbolic preparation
For His exalted return
Jesus Christ
Lord of Lords
Summons the forgiven
In humble covenant
Without exception
