ODE TO A TREE
On my way to work one day
You caught my eye I have to say
Splendor, quiet strength on display
A gift from God the Father, Yahweh
Standing tall, proud, and free
Strong and noble
Majesty
Roots dug deep for a century
Natures sentinel
Oh mighty tree
Branches strain to reach the sky
Lofty perch for those that fly
Burned for heat after you die
The winds of change pass you by
You give me life with leaves of green
Precious breath behind the scene
Fall brings gold and tangerine
Brilliant hues, nature’s routine
You weather storms without fear
Day by day
Year by year
Ice and snow, limbs austere
In the spring new life appears
I honor you my perennial friend
On your precious bounty I depend
Your future I will defend
Against those who recklessly pretend
That they can live without you………..
