ROOT CANAL
Gorgeous fall day
My worst nightmare clocks in
Pariah Root Canal
Audacious ruffian nerve
Gone berserk in my lower jaw
Sensory cell torment
At the hand of a wayward drill bit
Severed
In the heat of battle
Now embedded
Boring deeply into my infected tooth
Multiple shots of Novocain
Enough to numb a Grizzly
Pitiful worthless foe
Against my fierce nervous system
Rhythmic throbbing pulse
Agonizing thunder strokes
Pounding in my head
Dentist’s metal pin
Plunging mercilessly
Into the core of brutal follicles
My right leg
Jerks wildly with each jab
Suddenly
The thought hits me
Like a morphine blanket
Imagine
The wretched suffering soul
Forced to endure such surgical stroke
With only a shot of whiskey
And a rubber bridle
To spare the Doctors hand
My pain began to ease
Blessings counted with a gagged smile
And a grateful heart
I don’t have it so bad
After all…….
