NOTE TO SELF ABOUT PAWN SHOPS
Potent human drama
More powerful than Reality TV
Myriad of personal emotions
Elaborate threads of misery
Embroidered into life’s desperate fabric
Bleeding hearts like mine
Can’t take much of this scene
Refusing to accept such hardship
Insulting lack of poise
Accompanies the bitter barter
A woman leaves in tears
One hundred dollar offer
For her $2K Big Screen
I grieve for you dear lady
Sizzling camcorder
Still in the box
“Why you askin so many questions man”…….
Photo op with every transaction
Bombshell slice of life
So hard to muster dignity
When forced into shylock prostitution
To beat the wolf from your door
Note to self……
When I sell a million books
Stand at the Pawn Shop entrance
Handing out free money
To those who truly need it
And let them keep their stuff……..
